ArchiveCeltics sign Darius MilesThe Boston Celtics have announced that they have signed Darius Miles. Miles, a 6′9 small forward, impressed General Manager Danny Ainge and Celtics management after working out twice in Waltham, Mass. He has been out of the NBA for the last two years, recovering from microfracture knee surgery that had once been tabbed “career ending.” The contract is non-guaranteed, and Miles will report to training camp with the team on time. Miles, a former number three overall pick of the Los Angeles Clippers, has averaged 10.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.2 blocks per game over his career. He has played for the Clippers, Cleveland Cavaliers, and released by the Portland Trailblazers. He made the 2001 All-Rookie team, a first for a player drafted straight out of high school. Darius is expected to be competing for time off the bench with Tony Allen, and rookies J.R. Giddens and Bill Walker. He will be suspended for the first 10 games of the season due to testing positive and violating the league’s Antidrug policy. Miles was recently quoted, “I am excited about having the oppurtunity to play on a team that I feel my personality fits with and and a team that can have great success on the court.” |
